President Barack Obama is coming to Schenectady next week, according to a well-placed federal employee in Washington, D.C.

Obama will pay his visit on Tuesday, Jan. 11. It has been speculated that the president will be visiting GE Global Research in Niskayuna or the downtown Schenectady GE plant.

The themes that will most likely be highlighted by Obama were broached during Gov. Andrew Cuomo's State of the State Address on Wednesday, when he proposed the "N.Y. Cleaner, Greener Communities Program," which would include a $100 million competitive grant to improve our environment.

The grants are aimed at encouraging communities across the state to develop regional sustainable growth strategies and will be awarded to the most innovative comprehensive regional plans that support sustainability in various areas.
