A Long Island man who police stopped for allegedly driving 97 mph on I-88 Sunday is facing a felony charge after identifying himself as a police officer, according to state police
Don L. Jones, 54, of 67 Hill Ave., Elmont, was charged with first-degree criminal impersonation following the 9:45 p.m. traffic stop, according to a release from the state police at Cobleskill.
Police allege Jones displayed a gold shield that looked like one used by New York City police detectives and identified himself as a police officer. He is not a police officer, according to troopers.
Jones was arraigned and scheduled for a hearing in Schoharie Town Court.
