Chipotle Mexican Grill this week became the first business publicly connected to the long-delayed Mansion Square project.
Developers this week filed paperwork with the town naming Chipotle as one of three businesses to go into the first building set for construction at the Balltown Road and State Street site.
Meanwhile, two other projects across Balltown Road have gotten their approvals, with work on one already under way.
Aspen Dental is currently renovating the old Blockbuster at Mohawk Commons for an anticipated June 23 opening, a spokeswoman for the dental chain confirmed Wednesday.
The location is to be 3,400 square feet and include eight treatment rooms and about 10 employees, company spokeswoman Kasey Pickett said. Aspen Dental has 285 locations in 22 states.
Also receiving renovation approval is a renovation project at the Mohawk Commons Target. No date was available for that project, but Town Planner Kathy Matern said paperwork puts the renovations at $900,000, with much of the interior of the store to receive work.
A spokeswoman for Target offered no information on the project Wednesday, but suggested the renovations are to give an “expanded fresh food layout” to the store. Such a layout is available at other stores in the area, she said. The Target in Mohawk Commons opened there in March 2003.
At Mansion Square, earlier called Stanford Crossings, the first building permit was recently issued for a 14,000-square-foot building to face Balltown Road. The permit allows construction to begin. Plank llc. filed the permit paperwork.
The building is one of 10 expected to be on the site when it is complete, counting the historic Stanford Mansion and the building that is to be on either side of it.
Plank filed the building permit paperwork last month, but did not name the business to go into the building. The first identification of Chipotle came this week with filing of more specific plans on the interior of that section of the building. A representative of Chipotle declined to comment Wednesday, saying the company doesn’t comment on specific sites “until we have space under lease and construction is scheduled.” Nothing met that criteria Wednesday, the spokesman said.
The required permit for the restaurant is now awaiting Planning Department approval. Planning inspectors have seven to 14 days to review it, Matern said. No paperwork has been filed yet on the other two business slots in the structure.
Also planned is a road through the site. The road will begin at Balltown Road across from the entrance to Mohawk Commons, run through Mansion Square, and connect to State Street.
