A 6-year-old child died Monday evening as the result of a hit-and-run incident in Troy.

Police said that Jahvion Perez was hit by a black Ford pickup truck around 7:45 p.m. in the area of Middleburgh Street and Tenth Street. He was transported to Albany Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to police, witnesses reported the vehicle was operated by Roy Sanders, 21, of 43 Ingalls Road in Troy. They said that Sanders fled the scene after the accident.

Late Monday night police were still looking for Sanders. They issued a wanted poster that noted the vehicle’s license plate number of 26009JS. Cooney added that the vehicle is a registered to a person in Ticonderoga and there was a report over the police scanner that Sanders could possibly be heading to Lake George.

Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian, who was on the scene at the time of the accident, has told police that he is putting up a reward of $500 for information leading up to the arrest of Sanders. Police encourage the public to call 270-4421 with possible information about Sanders’ whereabouts.
