Early morning Albany stabbing leaves one wounded

Police are investigating an early morning stabbing on Morris Street that left an Albany man hospital

Police are investigating an early morning stabbing on Morris Street that left an Albany man hospitalized Saturday.

Police were called at 2:45 a.m. for a fight that had broken out in the street. The fight had dispersed by the time police arrived, but 22-year-old Ryan Fortne was found in the street with a stab wound to his chest obtained during the altercation, said Det. James Miller of Albany police.

Fortne told police he was outside his home at 493 Morris St. with a friend when he got into a verbal argument with another group of men, which escalated into a fight. During the course of the fight he was stabbed once in the chest. The assailant, along with the group of men, fled the scene on foot after the fight, Miller said.

A neighbor called in the incident. Fortne was treated on scene and transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was admitted for evaluation. He sustained a 1.5-inch stab wound to the left side of his chest, deemed not life threatening.

“It just missed his heart,” Miller said.

Fortne told police the suspect was a black male, whom he did not know.
