Online donations and major contributions from same-sex marriage advocates, like New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg flooded into state Sen. Roy McDonald's coffers after he recently voted in favor of marriage equality.
McDonald, R-Saratoga, declared his support for same-sex marriage in the middle of last month and online contributions from across the country began flooding in on June 29. In addition to this sudden influx of support, donations of at least $10,300 were made by gay rights advocates Bloomberg, Robert Ziff, Frank Selvaggi and Tim Gill.
In total, the senator raked in $163,220.53 since the last filing in January 2011, which was over six times what he raised during the same period in 2009.
Many of the donors from this six-month period include new contributors, like major Saratoga Springs Democratic supporters Elliott and Cathy Masie.
These figures are based on the July 15, 2011, filing that McDonald submitted to the state Board of Elections.
