The motorist who struck a child riding his bicycle in Amsterdam Wednesday was cleared of responsibility, according to a release from the Amsterdam Police Department.

The boy, 12-year-old Timothy Mazur, of Elias Street, remains in critical condition at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Lisa Doesburg, 48, of Jay Street, Amsterdam, was driving an SUV on Forest Avenue at about 2:05 p.m. before Mazur is believed to have crossed the roadway at Second Avenue into the path of the SUV, police said in the release.

A preliminary investigation turned up no evidence of alcohol use nor excessive speed on the part of Doesburg and no tickets were issued.

Mazur was not wearing a helmet, and police are advising parents to make sure their children are wearing proper safety equipment while on the road.
