Six Montgomery County residents accused of welfare fraud, forgery

Six Montgomery County residents accused of welfare fraud, forgery

Five people have been charged with welfare fraud following an investigation by several Montgomery Co

Five people have been charged with welfare fraud and another for forgery following an investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Social Services, Montgomery County Sheriffs Department, Montgomery County District Attorney's Office and the Amsterdam Police Department.

Charged were:

• Kimberly A. Barnett, 35, of 675 Stoner Trail Road, Fonda, one count of offering a false instrument for filing, second degree, a Class A misdemeanor, for inaccurately reporting her household composition.

• Deborah A. Mullis, 53, 9 Crouse St., Fort Plain, one count of welfare fraud, fourth degree, a Class E felony, and one count of offering a false instrument for filing, a Class E felony, for failing to report a family member residing in the home and working, thus receiving $2,020 in food stamp benefits she was not entitled to.

• Sheila Latour, 36, of 69 East Main, Apartment 1, Fonda, one count of welfare fraud, fourth degree, a Class E felony, for failing to report she was receiving child support and thereby receiving $1,176 she was not entitled to.

• Tiffany Lovering, 30, of 87 Bunn St., Amsterdam, one count of welfare fraud, fourth degree, a Class E felony, for failing to report unemployment insurance and receiving $1,310 she was not entitled to.

• Dixon Feliciano, 34, of 8 Swan St., Amsterdam, one count of welfare fraud, fifth degree, for selling narcotics for $475 to undercover police, which made him ineligible to receive $324 in temporary assistance.

• Also, Jessica Diaz, 23, of 60 Division St., Amsterdam, one count of forgery, second degree, a Class D felony, for cashing three checks belonging to another person.

All except Diaz are scheduled to return to Town of Mohawk Court, Fonda, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 30. Diaz will return at a later date. The supervising investigator was Michael Villa.
