UAlbany Arts Center to present music, dance, theater for 2011-12

Mixing professional touring artists with local productions by the theater and music departments, the

Mixing professional touring artists with local productions by the theater and music departments, the University at Albany Performing Arts Center will host more than 70 public events during the 2011-12 season at its five-theater complex on the main campus at 1400 Washington Ave.

First on the schedule of special performances is Alicia Svigals’ Klezmer Fiddle Express on Sept. 15. Svigals, a renowned fiddler and founder of the Klezmatics, will perform a program of ecstatic Jewish melodies.

Other musical offerings include The Oswego Jazz Project, Core Ensemble and a production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” the Nacre Dance Company and the University Chamber Players.

Professional theater will return to campus with two visits from American Place Theatre performing Piri Thomas’ “Down These Mean Streets” in October and Khaled Hosseini’s “The Kite Runner” in April. The Department of Theater will stage three full productions, plus readings in its Plays in Process series.

Tickets and subscriptions are currently available by mailing orders to the Performing Arts Center at University at Albany, PAC 266, Albany, NY 12222. Beginning Monday, tickets can be purchased at the box office or by phone at 442-3997. To receive a schedule of events, call 442-3995.
