State Police have arrested the man they say abandoned a dog on the side of the road in the town of Argyle with its paws duct taped together.
Shane Morehouse, 52, of Fort Edward, was charged Saturday with cruelty to animals and animal abandonment, both misdemeanors. His arrest stemmed from a police investigation that began Friday after the dog was found, troopers said.
In narrowing their search to Morehouse, investigators said they relied on numerous tips from area residents who made the connection through extensive press coverage.
The dog has since been identified as "Chubby," a 10- to 12-year-old Malamut mix that belonged to a Hudson Falls man, who had turned the dog over to Morehouse when he could no longer care for him.
After he was rescued, Chubby was treated for his injuries, but was euthanized due to an unrelated illness.
Morehouse was arraigned Saturday in Argyle Town Court and released. He is set to return to court on Feb. 14.
