Police have arrested a Ballston Spa woman who allegedly attempted to flee Glenville Town Court on Tuesday during her arraignment.
Maigan W. Richardson, 23, of West Milton Road, originally was arrested Feb. 9 on a felony charge of criminal possession of a forged instrument and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny. She allegedly used stolen and forged checks to make purchases at the Glenville Walmart.
Richardson was in court to face those charges when police said they discovered she was wanted by state police in Clifton Park on similar charges. Police said they also found heroin while she was being processed and she was subsequently charged with one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
As she was being led back up to court to be arraigned on the new charges, she fled out of the police department lobby entrance toward Glenridge Road, according to police spokesman Lt. Stephen Janik. She was not in handcuffs, Janik said.
“The officer felt she was cooperative and she was going up there to get arraigned on the new charge,” he said.
She then ran down Glenridge Road behind the Hannaford supermarket, police said, but was captured about a half-hour later at the intersection of York Road and Route 50. “She didn’t get far at all,” Janik said.
Richardson was arraigned on a new charge of third-degree escape along with the other counts and was sent to the Schenectady County jail with no bail set.
