Dan Butler, supervisor of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, holds one of nearly 135 cats taken from a residence in Halfmoon on Monday.

Twenty-six of the 100-plus cats rescued from a Saratoga County trailer home are now available for adoption at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter.

The cats, all males, became available for adoption this morning but none had been adopted out as of noon, shelter Director Dan Butler said.

Some kittens born since the rescue operation on Monday are now available to be sent out for foster care, Butler said. And some of the female cats will be ready for adoption as early as tomorrow, he said.

Authorities said 135 cats were removed from a mobile home in Halfmoon on Monday as part of the largest case of animal hoarding the supervisor of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter has ever encountered.

State troopers and the Halfmoon town animal control officer went to the mobile home in the D&R Village mobile home park on Route 146 on Monday morning, armed with a search warrant. A tip from a local veterinarian started a monthlong state police investigation into possible animal cruelty.

Police have not released the name of the man who was keeping the cats. No arrests have yet been made.
