Albany police say a 25-year-old woman yelled vulgar remarks at an 11-year-old girl and came at her with a knife in Swinburne Park Friday night.
Shatia Williams, of 43 N. Manning Blvd., was charged with second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child, according to an news release. Police located and arrested Williams inside a Rite Aid on Central Avenue after receiving a call about 6:30 p.m. Friday from the child’s mother.
The alleged victim told police Williams was walking near Clinton Avenue and North Manning Boulevard around 6 p.m. when she began to yell at the girl from across the street. The girl said that while the two yelled back and forth, Williams took a knife out of her pocket, showed it to her and began to walk across the street toward her.
The girl said she ran away and immediately went home to tell her mother. Police responded to the girl’s home, where her mother said the girl had just come home from the park and was threatened by a woman she knows.
Williams was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in City Criminal Court.
