A $10 million investment in Colonie by Time Warner Cable was put on display Wednesday with the official opening of the company’s new regional call center.

The new Northeast Sales Operation Center, located at 337 New Karner Road, is currently home to 240 full-time employees, and Time Warner plans to add 160 employees in the near future. The operation, which currently fills about 88 percent of the building, might also grow into the remaining space and hire another 150 employees, according to company spokeswoman Jennifer Hollick.

The company will hold a job fair at the new building next week.

Chris Van Name, regional vice president of sales and new market development, said the location will be responsible for handling all inbound service calls from current and potential customers in the Northeast. The location represents a consolidation of 120 employees who were spread throughout the Capital Region and handling some of these responsibilities.

By moving those 120 people and other regional employees into this new site, Van Name said, the company will become more efficient, improve conditions for employees and allow for a better training environment. He predicted that this would contribute to a better customer service experience.

The new building is a large open space, with modern training rooms, video conference capabilities and “huddle rooms” for employees to assemble. All of these upgrades to the building and the company’s 10-year lease represent a $10 million price tag for Time Warner.

“We have plans and hope to expand early next year to about 400 [employees],” Van Name said.

Hollick said the company is looking to hire representatives, supervisors and managers. She said research indicates that the Capital Region is “fertile” ground for good workers and is centrally located for regional operations.

The new site includes some employees who were let go from an outbound call center in Albany that had employed about 150 people. About two-thirds of those employees were part-timers. Hollick said some of those employees were moved to a regional center in North Carolina and others were given a severance package.

The Albany outbound call center was supposed to be closed about May 10.

The job fair is scheduled for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the New Karner Road site. Additional job information can be found on Time Warner Cable’s website,
