Tokyo String Quartet. With two of its members retiring next year, this is a chance to hear this internationally renowned string quartet in one of its final concerts, at St. Peter’s Church in Spencertown, as part of the Tannery Pond Concerts series. June 16.

Verdi’s “Aida.” An opera filled with spectacle, drama and sensational music — think brass fanfares — at a house that is known for its over-the-top productions. Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown in the first of an 11-performance run. July 7.

Violinist Kurt Nikkanen and Friends. The fabulous concertmaster from the NYC Ballet Orchestra in a rare local chamber music concert. Luzerne Chamber Music Festival, Lake Luzerne. July 9.

Tanglewood’s 75th anniversary concert. A plethora of stars from Yo-Yo Ma to James Taylor and conductors from John Williams to Keith Lockhart will make it an evening to remember. Tanglewood, Lenox, Mass. July 14.

Lang Lang, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra. A superstar pianist with one of the world’s great orchestras under the baton of its hot new music director designate should be a thrill. Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Aug. 8.
