Albany police arrested two city teens early Saturday morning after they were caught breaking into Albany High School.

Officers responded to the high school just after 1 a.m. after receiving a call that the school’s burglar alarm had been activated. When they arrived, police said they found that one of the doors to the school was open.

Officers searched the building and caught David O’Connor, 17, of 828 Jay St., and Taran Shaefer, 18, of 7 West St., as they attempted to flee out the back of the building.

According to police, both teens were in possession of a can of spray paint, as well as New York State scholar athlete pins which reportedly were stolen from the office of a coach.

The teens used the spray paint on a door inside the building, police reported.

Both teens were charged with burglary, criminal mischief, making graffiti, possession of graffiti instruments and petit larceny.

They were arraigned Saturday morning in the Albany City Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail.
