John Short named Eagle Scout for project at nature preserve

John Short, 17, son of Theresa and Christopher Short of Cedar Lane in Glenville, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 72, sponsored by St. John the Evangelist Church.

For his Eagle project, he led and organized fellow Scouts in the replacement of erosion control stairs at the Indian Kill Nature Preserve. The project also included refurbishing the information kiosk and updating the maps at the park entrance on Hetcheltown Road.

As a Scout for the past 11 years, he has earned 24 merit badges and held several leadership positions, including den chief, assistant patrol leader, senior patrol leader and Order of the Arrow representative.

A senior at Burnt Hills -Ballston Lake High School, Short is a member of the varsity crew team.

He is employed by The Daily Gazette as a carrier.
