The 40th Adirondack Balloon Festival got under way Thursday evening with the launch of about a dozen balloons from Crandall Park in Glens Falls.
Mostly sunny skies and a brisk wind greeted the balloonists. After lifting off, it did not take long for the balloons to disappear over the trees to the northeast.
Live music, food, drinks, souvenirs and rides for the kids were featured at the festival's opening-night event.
The event continues today with the launch of 80 balloons at 5 p.m. from Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury, followed by the Moonglow event at 8 p.m. in Lake George Village.
About 100 balloons will be launched at Bennett Airport on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. (Hint: If you're going, get a very, very early start; traffic can be backed up for miles.)
