Police: Man used knife in noontime robbery attempt

A Schenectady man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rob a Getty gas station on Sunday.

A Schenectady man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rob a Getty gas station on Sunday.

At about noon, Kevin S. Allen, 44, of 926 Cleveland Ave., allegedly entered the gas station at 3060 Broadway with a knife in his hand and demanded money from the clerk. Allen and the clerk struggled until Allen left on foot, according to police.

Witnesses observed Allen running to a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts at 3045 Broadway and drive away north on Cox Avenue.

A description of Allen was provided and the Schenectady and Rotterdam police departments located Allen following a joint investigation. He has been charged with first-degree attempted robbery, a class C felony, and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Allen is being held at the Schenectady County Correctional Facility.
