A group of children from Uganda visited Mechanicville Elementary School on Tuesday, giving a performance and later inviting students to join them in performance.
Chosen, a song and dance performance group consisting of seven Ugandan children ages 7-13, visited the school as part of a weeklong tour of the region and a followup to last year's art exchange between Mechanicville kindergarten students and children at the Rebahoth Primary School in Bugembe, Uganda.
They performed, took questions from the audience, and invited the Mechanicville students to join in.
Last year, Mechanicville children sent their drawings of winter cardinals to Uganda. The students also sent donated art supplies, consisting of paint sets, paper, crayons and coloring pages. In exchange, the Ugandan children, many of whom are orphaned, sent drawings to Mechanicville.
The Uganda children's visit was coordinated by the non-profit organization AOET (AIDS Orphan Education Trust). The children who comprise Chosen represent thousands of African children orphaned or impacted by the AIDS epidemic.
