Gilchrist’s goal lifts Union past RPI, 2-1

Sophomore striker Mollie Gilchrist scored off a cross by Kelsey Fish in the 62nd minute to lead 13th-ranked Union College to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a Liberty League women’s soccer match Wednesday night at East Campus Stadium.

Union improves to 5-1 in conference play and 13-1 overall. It was the first league setback for 5-1, 9-5 RPI.

Jennifer Mansfield scored her eighth goal of the season to give Union a 1-0 lead at 38:17, but RPI tied the score 40 seconds later on a goal by Nikki Goodsell.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — American International scored in the opening two minutes of the second half to clinch a Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights.

Jason Burnusuz and Miguel Rodriguez-Lapman each scored for the Yellow Jackets (4-4-2, 4-8-2), and junior goalie Jason Ryan added seven saves.

For Saint Rose (1-9, 1-12), James Taber was credited with five saves.

ONEONTA — Brandon Wilson scored his third goal of the season at 71:42 to lift the Great Danes over the Hawks in a non-conference game.

Ivan Martinez also scored for the 5-9 Great Danes, and Tim Allen stopped four shots in goal.

For 4-7-2 Hartwick, Marc Russell scored the goal, and Tom Buckner was credited with one save.

TROY — Sophomore Rob Dewald extended his personal scoreless streak to more than 600 minutes as the Engineers played to a scoreless draw with the Thoroughbreds in a Liberty League game at Renwyck Field.

RPI (4-1-2, 8-3-4) is unbeaten in seven straight games. Dewald made four saves. Skidmore (3-2-1, 9-4-2) got nine saves from keeper Eli Kisselbach.

SCHENECTADY — Kealy Chipman and Shawna Pinsonault highlighted a three-goal second half with a goal and an assist each to pace the Spartans over the Dutchwomen at Frank Bailey Field.

Kristy Pinkham also scored for 13-2 Castleton State.

Emily Finnerman scored for 6-8 Union.
