An inmate at the Albany County Correctional Facility is in critical condition after attempting to kill himself, according to the Albany County Sheriff's Office.
Stanley Haluska, 63, was found unresponsive Friday afternoon on the floor of his cell by a correction officer, who immediately began administering CPR. Haluska was then transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was listed Saturday night in critical condition.
An investigation revealed Haluska had attempted to suffocate himself and was discovered about 17 minutes after being observed by another officer making an inmate count.
Haluska was awaiting extradition to Alabama, where he was found guilty of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12. He was sentenced to 10 years in 2010, with an appeals court upholding the conviction last October.
