The popularity of the Gazette Stockade-athon 15-kilometer (9.3 miles) road race continues to grow, drawing a record field in each of the past five years.

Based on entries so far this year, race director Vince Juliano said he is expecting another large field on Sunday, one that will approach another record for what is regarded as the "oldest major 15K road race in the country."

Last year, a total of 1,794 runners entered the race and 1,603 finished the course, which begins and ends in Schenectady's Central Park.

Entries are accepted until Saturday. Online registration has closed, but last-chance registration will continue Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Daily Gazette main office at 2345 Maxon Road Extension in Schenectady. Packet pickup and shirt selection will be available on Saturday as well, along with the sale of previous years' merchandise. For those who have already entered, packet pickup will continue at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in Central Park before the start of the race.

The race starts at 9 a.m., with a kids' one-mile run to follow at 11:30 a.m. The awards ceremony follows the kids' race.
