Man gets 8 years for kidnapping plot

James Hennesey suspected his business associate had a large sum of money and figured he could get it

James Hennesey suspected his business associate had a large sum of money and figured he could get it by arranging for someone to kidnap him.

The 53-year-old Voorheesville man contacted a third party about a plan to abduct the man and hold him restrained for more than 12 hours. His goal was to demand as ransom the $400,000 he suspected his associate had as a result of work his restoration business was doing.

But the third party foiled his plan by alerting the intended victim. State police were then contacted and began an investigation that lead to Hennesey’s arrest on kidnapping, conspiracy, criminal solicitation, burglary and grand larceny charges earlier this year.

In Albany County Court on Friday, Hennesey was handed an 8-year prison sentence, having admitted to one felony count of attempted kidnapping in September. Judge Dan Lamont also ordered him to serve two years’ post-release supervision.

Hennesey’s restoration business was involved in disaster response, such as flood recovery. His kidnapping plot started in February and ended with his arrest in April.
