Amedore retakes lead in 46th District

Republican Assemblyman George Amedore is back on top in the 46th Senate District.

Republican Assemblyman George Amedore is back on top in the 46th Senate District.

He has retaken the lead on the back of absentee and affidavit ballots in Greene County, which are still being counted today. Monday night, Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk pulled ahead in the race based on paper ballots from Albany County. The lead has now switched three times since Election Day.

As of the latest count from Greene County, which was provided by Amedore spokesman Kris Thompson, Amedore had gained 364 votes and Tkaczyk had only gained 217. This gives Amedore a lead of just more than 110 votes.

A more detailed analysis of today's results and the race can be found at the Capital Region Scene blog.

Greene County's count will not be finished tonight, according to Thompson. Acting Montgomery County Supreme Court Judge Guy Tomlinson, who is overseeing the counting process, ordered Greene County to stop at 7 p.m. and resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. Counting on Wednesday will include Greene and Schenectady counties.

Thompson estimated that they'll have about half of Greene County to finish tomorrow.

On Friday, the final two counties, Ulster and Montgomery, will start counting their paper ballots.
