A local woman won the latest edition of “America’s Next Top Model: College Edition,” landing a modeling contract and a photo spread in a fashion magazine.
Laura James is from Cambridge in Washington County. After her win was announced on the reality show, she said it was a step forward for all “curvy” women. During the show, judges debated whether the fashion world was ready for a woman with her curves.
“I think it’s amazing, the fact that I’m now representing girls who are healthy and strong and it’s OK to have a butt and a figure,” James said.
James was elated by the win, shouting on television, “I’ve been dreaming of this for such a long time!”
Through challenges she won during the competition, she also received $30,000 to pay off college loans.
She was the second recent Capital Region success story on the show. Earlier this year, Scotia native Laura LaFrate was the runner-up on “America’s Next Top Model.”
