Ailayia Demand poured in 19 points to go along with five steals and six assists, and she became the third person in Watervliet girls’ basketball program history to reach 1,000 career points as the Lady Cannoneers crushed Albany Leadership Charter School, 65-22, in the Watervliet Tip-Off Tourn­ament Friday.

Loshona Tolliver and Korn­elia Sziller added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Cannoneers. Makayla Gordon topped Albany Leadership Charter School with 10 points.

In the other first-round game, Ballston Spa rode 18 points from Jen Groat to beat Cohoes, 45-39.

Shadasia Alston and Bella Vanelli scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead Cohoes.

In boys’ basketball, Logan Sam­arija tossed in 18 points on six three-pointers to help Maple Hill edge Mayfield, 65-63 in overtime, in the opening round of the Hoosic Valley tournament.

Kyle Hall (14) and Jake Tibbitts (10) also reached double figures for the Wildcats.

Mayfield was topped by Lucas Van Nostrand (18), Dylan Toscano (12) and Jake Palmer (10).

Maple Hill will take on tourney host Hoosic Valley in the championship game after the Indians thumped Duanesburg, 65-32, in the other first-round game.

Ethan Ross-Hixson netted 17 points, and John Rooney (14) and Ray Schoonmaker (12) combined for 26 more to lead Hoosic Valley, which broke the game open with a 29-8 second-quarter run. Chris Smalls scored 11 for the Eagles.
