A Virginia man is facing criminal charges after a high-speed chase Saturday night that left two police cars damaged. Police from the Guilderland and Altamont police departments attempted to stop a 2002 Honda Accord that had fled from a traffic stop at about 9:30.
According to police, Nathanael David Hallmark, 34, of Richmond, Va., was driving east on Route 146 at a high rate of speed. He drove across spike strips that police had placed at Route 146 and Route 20, and continued east on Route 20, reportedly striking two marked Guilderland police vehicles along the way.
Hallmark was stopped on Route 20 in the area of Sumpter Avenue and taken into custody. He was transported to Albany Medical Center for evaluation.
Once released from the hospital, police said he will be charged with second-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.
