Capital Region businesses rolled out the deals in hopes of capitalizing on Cyber Monday, the Internet-based version of Black Friday.

Some businesses have high hopes for expanded online sales today as well, during the latest addition to the holiday shopping hype — “Mobile Tuesday.”

Mobile Tuesday is a day of savings for those who shop with their mobile devices.

Saratoga Olive Oil Co. offered free shipping all day Cyber Monday, and consumers responded.

“We usually do around five orders a day, and we sent out our [free shipping] notice [Sunday] around 1 o’clock and we’re pushing over 100 orders right now,” owner Clint Braidwood said Monday around 2 p.m.

The company has only been selling inventory online for a year, but during that time, Internet business has increased exponentially.

“We were up 300 percent in October 2012 compared to 2011 and this month, it’s going to be even higher than 300 percent. We’re very excited about it,” he said.

Nancy Gold, president of Tough Traveler in Schenectady, a luggage, backpack, baby carrier and bag manufacturer, said her store offered special 20-percent-off deals on two popular backpacks, a tote bag, a medium-sized duffle bag, a flight carry-on bag and a women’s shoulder bag for Cyber Monday, and is keeping the deals going until Saturday.

Sales were also up thanks to Small Business Saturday, which took place Nov. 24, and as of early Monday afternoon, Cyber Monday sales seemed to be following suit, she said.

Gold said she’s noticed more local customers ordering from the Tough Traveler website this year.

The site is smartphone-friendly, so she’s hoping to cash in on Mobile Tuesday as well.

“They can call Wednesday something else,” she joked. “I’m hoping for one where they say, ‘New York State-Made Bag Day.’ We’ll be ready.”

Marisa Geraghty of Colonie did a little online shopping Monday morning before work. She hadn’t planned on it, she said, but a Cyber Monday deal on UGG Boots advertised on Facebook sucked her in.

“I think normally they are $189 and they were $22 dollars. It was such a good deal,” she said.

Online orders already appeared to be up slightly late Monday morning at Glenville-based BikeWorld-

USA, which peddles its wares on amazon.com, eBay and its own website, according to marketing director Ashley Kahler.

The business sells bicycle parts and accessories, stationery, Western hats and accessories, as well as Christmas items.

On Monday, BikeWorld was offering free shipping for purchases over $75.

Online business has been up this year compared with past years, noted Kahler.

City Mission of Schenectady is offering a Mobile Tuesday promotion today for charitably minded shoppers. The organization sent out about 1,800 emails to supporters inviting them to donate, volunteer or “like” the organization on Facebook. The aim: to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. The initiative piggybacks on a nationwide day of giving dubbed Giving Tuesday.

“We wanted to give people the option to do something different,” said Liz Chamberlain, development director for City Mission.

City Mission’s mobile device-friendly Gifts of Hope catalog, which can be found at citymissiongiftsofhope.com, gives shoppers the opportunity to help Schenectady’s homeless and hungry by donating a set amount to sponsor things like a night of shelter for $13.90; a nutritious meal for $1.83; or a complete winter survival kit, including a warm coat, boots, gloves, hat and a scarf, for $95.
