The Turf Club restaurant, which had been in business for nearly two years at the corner of Union Avenue and Nelson Avenue, has closed.
Beverly Reedy, who had operated the restaurant with her son, is going back to concentrating on her “Beverly’s Best” line of food products, according to Peter and Leslie DiCarlo, owners of the building and also owners of Springwater Bread and Breakfast located to the north of the restaurant.
The DiCarlos are currently looking for a new party to lease the restaurant.
The restaurant has had several names over the years. Once a private home, the building was converted to a restaurant and rooming house in the early 1920s, according to Leslie DiCarlo. The building was called the Atlantic Hotel and later the Maranese Hotel.
In the 1970s the building was called the Lantern Lodge and in the 1980s, The Union Coach House. From 1989 through 2001 the restaurant was called the Springwater Inn and from 2001 through 2009 it was called the Springwater Bistro and again, from 2009 to 2011, the Springwater Inn.
The building is across the street from the Saratoga Race Course on Union Avenue and includes an 80-seat dining room, a 12-seat bar in a 20-seat tavern with a fireplace, and a 20-seat seasonal porch.
