Tanglewood’s summer 2013 season will open July 5, with Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra and violinist Joshua Bell in an all-Tchaikovsky program.
Special events in the 2013 season include a presentation July 13 of the newly remastered film classic "West Side Story," with the BSO performing Leonard Bernstein’s iconic score to accompany the original vocals and dialogue.
On Aug. 15, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile and Stuart Duncan will perform music inspired by their recent genre-defying recording, "The Goat Rodeo Sessions."
A summer tradition continues on Aug. 24 with John Williams’ film night. Williams and the Boston Pops will be joined by guest conductor David Newman and vocalist Audra McDonald for what has become one of the signature events of the Tanglewood season.
The BSO’s outdoor concert season finishes up on Aug. 25, when conductor Bernard Haitink will lead the orchestra in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Non-classical performances coming this summer include country music star Vince Gill on July 7 and American songbook champion Michael Feinstein on Aug. 16. Garrison Keillor will bring his "Prairie Home Companion" to the stage on June 29.
Tickets for the summer season go on sale Sunday, Jan. 27 and will be available at 888-266-1200 and www.tanglewood.org. For the full schedule of concerts, visit www.tanglewood.org.
