Man struck, killed by train in Schenectady

A man in his late 40s was struck and killed by a freight train early Friday.

A man in his late 40s was struck and killed by a freight train early Friday, police said.

The man was on the tracks just south of the Schenectady Amtrak station when he was struck. His body was found north of Weaver Street.

Police were called by officials from Canadian Pacific Railway, who said a southbound Norfolk Southern freight train riding on Canadian Pacific tracks struck the man. Police did not know Friday why he was on the tracks. His name was not immediately released, pending notification of family.

Railroad traffic was shut down for a short period, but soon resumed, police said.

A city police evidence technician responded and processed the scene. State police are assisting with the reconstruction.
