Early December often means early starts for the Christmas season.

Some people were already thinking about the holidays during the first weeks of December in 1967. Teenagers in local 4-H clubs planned their local 4-H winter fair. Mohonasen music students performed seasonal songs in concert. And lighthearted guys in Scotia made village streets bright with electric color.

Some understood that big meals weren’t just events for Hanukkah, Christmas or New Year’s. Spaghetti lovers got strands and scarlet sauce at the Schenectady Boys’ Club Alumni Association’s 16th pasta supper at the Sons of Italy on Liberty Street. Club chefs cooked 120 pounds of spaghetti and 150 pounds of meatballs.

Trinity Lutheran Church prepared for its first winter season with new pastor Arthur H. Hawlicheck. And roller skaters received some gifts early — awards for top performances in an inter-rink roller-skating competition held at Rollerama in Rotterdam. More than 250 skaters from 40 clubs in New York and Massachusetts rolled in for fast footwork.
