The Golub Corp. was among seven organizations across the state to be honored Wednesday by the state Department of Environmental Conservation for innovative programs and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
The DEC established the award program in 2004 to recognize those improving and protecting New York’s environment. A 20-member statewide review committee helped narrow down the field of Environmental Excellence Award contenders from more than 60 applications received in May, according to a DEC press release.
Price Chopper and its parent Golub Corp. were commended for their corporate sustainability efforts.
Golub’s move into its new corporate headquarters on Nott Street in Schenectady, as one example, has meant a 42 percent improvement in energy efficiency and a 30 percent reduction in water use. All construction materials were required to contain at least 32 percent recycled content.
As another example, Price Chopper also purchases wind power, which offsets about 3,100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
