The town has received a $5,000 state matching grant for improving public access to the Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve at Ferry Drive.
The grant was announced Wednesday by the Hudson River Valley Greenway Council.
Using the grant, the town will work with professional landscape architects and engineers to improve the Mohawk Towpath Trail and the Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve and also enhance access to views of the river.
Plans include restoring and reusing the Ferry Drive stone bridge abutment for a scenic overlook of the Mohawk River, looking toward Niskayuna, offi cials said.
The project will also reconnect the two segments of the Erie Canal towpath trail into a continuous linear greenway. There would also be new kayak and canoe access to the river.
