Schenectady County will remember the anniversary of Pearl Harbor with multiple events.
The town of Rotterdam will hold its 19th annual Pearl Harbor Day Service on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Town Hall. Later, at 6:30 p.m. , the Schenectady VFW Post 357 will have services at 1308 Fifth Ave.
Also, public radio station WAMC in Albany will have a special Pearl Harbor program titled “Day of Infamy: Pearl Harbor over the Radio.”
WAMC’s Dr. Alan Chartock and University at Albany professor Dr. Ivan Steen will guide listeners through several selections of radio broadcasts that announced the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
The program will start at 11 a.m. Friday on 90.3 FM/1400AM or go to WAMC.org.
Steen has been on the faculty at the University at Albany for more than 45 years, and currently serves as the Vincent O’Leary Associate Professor of History.
He is also the co-director of the Center for Applied Historical Research. He has conducted oral history interviews with radio performers from the 40s and 50s and has taught a course on the golden age of radio.
