Road flagger from Oswego County injured in Niskayuna accident

An Oswego County road flagger was struck by a car on Thursday afternoon in Niskayuna.

An Oswego County road flagger was struck by a car on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened at around 3 p.m.

Erie Sieglman, 41, of Niskayuna was heading southbound on Rosendale Road and approaching Route 7. The sun’s glare prevented him from seeing a truck in the construction zone in the area of 3504 Rosendale Road, according to Detective Sgt. Daniel McManus.

“He swerved to avoid it and into the oncoming lane, where the flagger was standing and struck the flagger,” he said.

The victim, 39-year-old Wayne Hamilton from Parish, N.Y., was flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center with what McManus described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no tickets were issued, McManus said.

That area of road was closed for 2 1/2 hours while the accident was cleared.
