A Mechanicville man who was accused of driving drunk with a child unsecured in the back seat was sentenced Tuesday to five years’ probation.
James J. Ellsworth III, 28, of 137 Saratoga Ave., Apt. 1, also was fined $1,000 and ordered to have an ignition interlock device installed on his car.
He pleaded guilty in August to violating Leandra’s Law, felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.
Police in June said they saw Ellsworth drive into a parking area in Stillwater with a child in the back of the vehicle not wearing a safety belt. As they spoke with him, officers realized he was intoxicated.
