Fort Plain comes back, stays unbeaten in WAC

Joe Ray and Chris Hanifin scored six points apiece in a fourth-quarter comeback as Fort Plain edged Canajoharie, 62-55, in a Western Athletic Conference basketball game Wednesday night.

Jake Sardina netted five of his team-best 14 points in Fort Plain’s rally from a 40-38 deficit.

Ray finished with 13 points, Marcus Failing had 12 and Hanifin closed with 11 to help the Hilltoppers (3-0, 4-1) stay unbeaten in the Northern Division. Dillan Veeder paced the Cougars (2-1, 3-2) with 17 points.

John Rooney scored 22 points, and Hoosic Valley had a 19-5 first-quarter run in a 61-40 Wasaren League win over Granville.

Ethan Ross-Hixson had 16 points for Hoosic Valley (2-0, 5-0). Jared Beattie sparked winless Granville with 23.

Andrew Hoag and Taylor Baker led a balanced Hoosick Falls effort with 16 and 12 points, respectively, and the Panthers (1-1, 1-2) downed Greenwich, 54-37.

Collin Oswald scored 13 points for the Witches (0-2, 4-2).

Shane Lyon worked for 18 points, and was one of eight different Schuylerville players who hit from three-pointer territory in a 62-26 triumph over Cambridge.

Shawn McNeil totaled 17 points, 15 coming in the first half, and Jake Hill had 10 as Stillwater defeated Tamarac, 55-32.

Mat Yamin scored 16 of his season-high 27 points in the second half to help Loudonville Christian put away Heatly in a 55-42 Central Hudson Valley League win.

Gabe Brown had 10 points for the Eagles (4-0, 6-0), and Austin Horton topped Heatly with 14.

Corey Rathjen scored 19 points, Nolan Lewis hit for 17, and Germantown slugged Hawthorne Valley, 84-41, in the CHVL.

Ezra Glatt scored 13 points for Hawthorne Valley.

Everton Higgins fired in 18 points, Javel Grant scored 17, and Hudson (4-1, 4-1) surged in the third quarter to log a 75-67 Patroon Conference win at Maple Hill.

Logan Samarija scored 22 points for Maple Hill.

Jordan Brantley collected 27 points, and Catskill broke to the lead early in a 62-28 win over Coxsackie-Athens.

Brendon Halligan scored 12 points as Cairo-Durham beat Rensselaer, 54-36. Shawn Pondillo scored 17 for the Rams.

Girls

Haley Killmartin scored 17 points and took down 11 rebounds, and Fort Plain kept its WAC record perfect with a 54-24 win over Canajoharie.

Abby Boyer scored 15 points to back Killmartin, and the Hilltoppers (3-0, 5-0) held the Cougars (2-1, 3-2) scoreless in the second quarter.

Abby Spagnola notched 13 points and Erica Chase added 10 to lift Galway (2-1, 3-2) to a 52-28 WAC victory over Mayfield.

Corinth beat North Warren in the Adirondack League, 37-32, behind Hannah Murphy’s 16 points.
