A business owner is facing felony charges for allegedly issuing fraudulent documents and taking money for them.

Walter Davis, 57, of St. Johnsville, was recently arrested and charged with first-degree falsifying business records, a felony, and fifth-degree insurance fraud, a misdemeanor. The charges stem from a joint investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Fonda, the State Police Financial Crimes Unit and the New York State Insurance Fund.

It is alleged that Davis issued fraudulent certificates of liability insurance to customers at his business and then took premium payments for those certificates. Police said they also discovered he may have attempted to hide the fake certificates by altering his business records.

Davis was issued an appearance ticket that is returnable to the Village of St. Johnsville Court on Jan. 9, 2013.
