Internationally known percussionist Colin Currie will make a debut appearance at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Aug. 15, performing as the featured soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Currie performs with a range of percussion instruments, from the timpani, snare drum, bass drum, marimba and vibraphone to “found” instruments such as buckets, bottles, keys or pans. His performances are highly visual and may include hip-hop body percussion and gymnastic choreography.
Currie also leads the dynamic percussion ensemble The Colin Currie Group, which is known for its performances of Steve Reich’s iconic work “Drumming,” a non-stop fusion of bongo drums, marimbas, glockenspiels and synthesised vocals. The tour has played to sold-out concert halls across Europe.
Tickets for Currie’s concert will go on sale online to SPAC members at spac.org in late February and to the general public in mid-March.
