School basketball: BH-BL salvages consolation

Robbie Knightes fired in a season-high 26 points, Austin Nyd­egger scored 23 and host Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake earned con­solation honors at the Shawn Walsh Memorial Tournament with a 72-58 win over Queensbury Wednesday night.

Knightes delivered 21 second-half points to help the Spartans pull away from a 25-20 lead. The senior sank five of his career-best six three-point baskets over the final two quarters.

Saugerties rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Columbia, 51-50, for the championship.

Kevin Shannon scored seven of his 10 points in the fourth quarter to lift Canajoharie over Schoharie, 40-37, at the Cougars’ Andy Palmer Christmas Classic.

Nico Dumas topped five double-digit Mechanicville scorers with 16 points, and the reigning Section II Class C champs beat Cambridge, 63-43, in a non-league game.

Girls

Kaitlin Wood collected 19 points and 14 rebounds, Katie Herba chipped in with 10 points, and the host Lady Patriots diminated the middle quarters en route to a 54-27 title-game win over Still­water at the Broadalbin-Perth Holiday Tourn­ament.

Jill Davis and Aisling McAllister scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, as Queensbury posted a 46-36 non-league victory over Saratoga Springs.

Cassidy Chapko went 9-for-11 from the line in the final quarter, and scored 14 of her 17 points in the stretch, to propel Hoosic Valley (7-0)past Hudson Falls, 41-34.

Rylie Smith scored 18 points in St. Johnsville’s 44-39 loss to Dolgeville.
