A Schenectady man faces numerous charges after allegedly leading police on a chase Wednesday and attempting to ram an officer’s car with his vehicle.
The incident began just after noon, when police say they saw 35-year-old Edwin N. Villalongo of 1405 State St. speeding west on Chrisler Avenue .
Officers pulled him over in the parking lot of the Cumberland Farms at 1001 Crane St. They asked Villalongo to place his hands on the steering wheel and he refused, reversing the car and speeding off, according to papers filed in court.
Shortly thereafter, Villalongo allegedly intentionally attempted to ram a police car. Its driver took action to avoid a head-on crash.
He then led officers on a chase that lasted about four minutes and hit 60 mph, according to police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken. He abandoned his vehicle at the dead end of Davis Terrace and fled on foot down a hill and through a wooded area, but eventually was arrested following a brief struggle.
