The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Duanesburg wrestling teams both won team titles at tourn­aments in

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Duanesburg wrestling teams both won team titles at tourn­aments in Section IV Saturday.

Burnt Hill placed 10 wrestlers in the top four and added one fifth-place finish in cruising to the team title at the Oneonta Rotary Tournament.

Christian Gramuglia (99 pounds), Joey Butler (138) andJack Hatton (170) all won their weight classes for the Spartans, who also had Nolan Hale (132), Jake Achcraft (152) and Race Viedt (195) reach the final.

Mason Rabideau (126), Antonio Rodriguez (160) and Nico Fragale (220) all were third, Jackson Lindberg (106) placed fourth and Anthony Papa was fifth at 182 as Burnt Hills finished with 2251⁄2 points. Elmira and Saugerties tied for second with 1551⁄2 points.

“The kids wrestled well,” said Spartans coach Steve Jones. “Christian Gramuglia got his first varsity tournament championship. Joey Butler got MOW for the 99 through 145 weight classes, and Jack Hatton could have gotten the other one for the upper weights. He pinned in all three of his matches.”

Schoharie got a third-place finish from Alexis Bleau at 126 and a sixth-place finish from Kyle Brown at 138.

Duanesburg finished with 17 wrestlers in the top six in the multiple-entry Deposit tournament.

Unbeaten Connor Lawrence got to 25-0 by winning the 152-pound bracket, coming from the third seed to knock off the top two seeds.

Jeff Senecal also won an ind­ividual title for the Eagles, taking the 182 division.

Devin Van Vlack (99), Shane Barneris (106) and Andy Mollevik (145) finished second; Colin Kenyon (170) and Jason St. John (182) were third; and John Nicolella (126), Kyle Walters (113), Mark Caulfield (160) and Nick Cornaire (182) all placed fourth.

Shenendehowa advanced to today’s 11 a.m. semifinals at the Union-Endicott Duals by going 3-0 in its pool.

The Plainsmen, who won the team title last year, beat the hosts, 58-19; downed MinisinkValley, 51-21; and knocked off MacArthur, 49-21, to win Group C. Shenendehowa will meet Group B winner Sachem East in its semifinal. Wantagh and Islip will meet in the other semi­final, with the final set for 3 p.m.

General Brown of Section III walked away with the team title at the Saratoga Springs tournament.

The host Blue Streaks finished third, getting titles from Dominic Inzana at 120 and Jim Helin at 285. Richard Schrade lost to Guilderland’s Josh Logiudice in the 99 final. The Dutchmen also had the 106 winner in Mike Lainhart.

Niskayuna’s Eric Steele was the 145 winner, Mechanicville’s Adam Erno won at 132 and Whitehall’s John Diekel took the 138 title.

Schalmont placed fourth at the Richard New Memorial tourney in Canastota, led by MOW Nick Gallo, who won the 160 title.

Anthony Paturso won at 152, and Alex Lambert got to the 99 final.

The Sabres brought 11 wrestlers, and nine finished in the top five.

Kyle Jasenski (106), Paul Lambert (120 and Ben Newcomb (285) all were third; Tim Flower (182) was fourth; and both Jon Batchler (126) and Marcus Ramundo (220) were fifth.

Host Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk won the Jamie Mormile Memorial event, getting a pair of champions from nine finalists.

Freddy Pechette won at 138, and state runner-up Alex Soutiere topped the 285 division.

John Rue (113), Mike Parker (145), David Ingraham (152), Luke Misuraca (160), Brandon Boomhower (170), Tyler Gallagher (182) and Logan Kunkle (220) also got to the finals.

Another Section III club. Adirondack, came out on top at the Greg Rockwood Memorial event at Galway, 10 points better than the host Eagles.

Galway had one champion in Jay Oakes at 132. Three Galway wrestlers — Nico Riccio (106), Steven Culbert (138) and Ryan Pappalau (160) reached the finals.

Third-place Corinth had champions in Casidy White (113), Tyler Mulcahy (126) and Kyle Mulcahy (138). Johnstown had first-place efforts from its upper weights, as Austin Manchester (180), Patrick Morrison (195) and Joe Nellis (220) all won their weight classes.

Jerrell White gave Schenectady a champ by winning at 170. Josh Rewed (120), Elijah Washington (182) and Emanual Zamora (220) all were third for the Patriots.

Sectional champ Carter Merecki of Salem edged Connor Franzese of Cohoes, 3-2, at 120, a match voted the best final.

Hockey

PLAINSMEN TOP MOHAWKS

Kyle Marr scored twice to lift Shenendehowa over Niskayuna/Schenectady, 5-0, in a Capital District High School Hockey League game.

Brad Tardif, Peter Sacks and Max Papele also scored for the Plainsmen. Brian Walter and Ben Fastad combined for the shutout with 13 saves. Spencer Moran made 28 saves for the Mohawks.

Kevin Miles scored an unassisted goal with 2:03 to play to give Shenendehowa a 3-1 win over Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa in a CDSHSL game played Friday.

Ian Speck scored for the Spartans, who got 50 saves from Austin Clark.

Sean Glennon scored 56 seconds into overtime as Christian Brothers Academy rallied for a 3-2 non-league win over Central Square.

CBA trailed after the first period, 2-0. John Bassett and Tom Pelletier pulled the Brothers even, both goals asisted by Nick Makarowski.

ITHACA — James Steck (14-0), Dan Gavin (13-6) and Casey Ogden (13-0) of Shaker took the first three spots in the pole vault, schoolmate Ryan Griffin prevailed in the shot put (49-61⁄2), and the Blue Bison got another victory from Kayleigh Lavender in the 600-meter run (1:42.25) at the Southern Tier Invitational at Cornell University.

Section II’s other individual girls’ champions were Shenendehowa’s Sarah Osaheni in the 55 hurdles (8.59) and Lundy Spinner in the weight throw (42-71⁄4), and Grace Smith of Bethlehem in the high jump (5-4).

Shenendehowa won the girls’ 1,600 relay (4:13.20) with Osaheni as the anchor, beating out Beth­lehem (4:17.65) and Shaker (4:19.13), and the Lady Plainmen also took the 3,200 relay (9:52.42). In boys’ relay races, Shaker (1:36.24) and Beth­lehem (1:36.47) went one-two in the 800, Bethlehem (3:40.02) and Shaker (3:41.34) reversed the outcome in the 1,600, and the Blue Bison placed third in the 3,200 (8:30.92).

Other second-place efforts were turned in by Danika Jensen of Bethlehem in the 1,000, where seven of the top nine came from Section II, Osaheni and Jordan Crump-King of Shaker in the triple jump, and Lloyd Smalling of Shaker in the 55 dash.

Third individually among the girls were Bailey Kowalczyk of Shenendehowa (1,000), Spinner (shot put) and Bethlehem’s Arn­elle Thomas and Vicky Buehler of Bethlehem (triple jump). Third individ­ually among the boys were Shaker’s Austin Dresher (55 dash), Robert Smith (300), Ian Weykamp (55 hurdles) and Ronnell Forde (triple jump), Noah Bell (3,200) and Liam Martens of Bethlehem (high jump), and Tory Cook of Shenendehowa (weight throw).

NEW YORK — Keelin Hollowood of Saratoga Springs and Ross Wightman of Chatham won the Hispanic Games invitational steeplechase titles in 5:20.71 and 4:38.44, respectively, at The Armory Track and Field Center.

Cathy Maloy of Holy Names ran fifth in the invitational mile (5:07.20). In open competition, Kara Snyder of Colonie won the pole vault (11-3), Jay Nevin of Saratoga won the mile (4:19.80) and Leah Triller of Holy Names placed fifth in the 800 (2:15.97).
