For a third straight game, the Siena women lost a close one, as Niagara won in overtime, 70-62, on Sunday.

The Purple Eagles went on a 22-6 run over the final 10:32 to force overtime.

Shy Britton scored six of her career-high 20 points in overtime as Niagara outscored Siena, 10-2.

The Saints fell to 0-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and 4-9 overall, and the Purple

Eagles improved to 1-1 and 6-7.

Clara Sole Anglada had a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints, and Lily Grenci had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Meghan McGuinness scored 18 points for Niagara, including two free throws with eight seconds left to produce the final score.

Grenci made two free throws to give the Saints a 60-57 lead with 1:13 left in regulation.

Niagara tied it on a layup by Britton and one of two free throws by Kayla Stroman with 8.9 seconds left.

Siena had to play overtime without two starters who fouled out.

Colonie High graduate Tehresa Coles drew her fifth foul with 2:09 left, and Sole headed to the bench with nine seconds left.

Siena’s final possession of regul-ation ended when a pass went over Grenci’s head in the post.

The Purple Eagles scored the first four points of overtime, on a layup and two free throws by Britton.

Siena outscored Niagara, 13-0, to start the game, but the Purple Eagles scored the next 11 to get back in it.

Siena lost at Canisius on Friday when freshman Tiahana Mills made a halfcourt shot at the buzzer.

Following a season-long four-game road trip, the Saints return home when they host Fairfield Thursday.

Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m. in Siena’s third annual BlueShield of Northeastern New York Kid’s Day Game. Nearly 2,000 schoolchildren will be in attendance for the game, which will be televised on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
