Schenectady man assaulted wife, stepdaughter: police

Police arrested a Schenectady man Sunday for allegedly assaulting his wife and his stepdaughter.

Police arrested a Schenectady man Sunday for allegedly assaulting his wife and his stepdaughter.

John F. Walters, 34, of 1138 Eighth Ave. allegedly put his hands around his wife’s throat and squeezed, making it difficult for her to breathe. Her daughter, who witnessed the attack, told police that her mother lost feeling in her legs and lost consciousness as a result of the strangulation, according to papers filed in court.

During the incident, Walters also allegedly did not allow his wife to leave the bathroom. He allegedly said “I’m going to kill you,” while on top of her and choking her, according to court documents. He intentionally punched and bit the woman, causing redness to her face and a cut on her back.

He is also accused of shoving her into a shelf and onto the ground, punching her in the head and biting her side, according to court documents.

He also allegedly struck his stepdaughter with a metal candle holder and bit her forearm, leaving a bloody wound, and struck her several times in the face.

Walters was charged with felony second-degree strangulation and misdemeanors of unlawful imprisonment, two counts each of menacing and third-degree assault and a violation of harassment.
