The Siena College women’s basketball team opened up a 20-point lead and held on to defeat Manhattan, 62-55, Sunday in the front end of a double-header with the Siena men at the Times Union Center.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and marked the Saints’ first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season.

Lily Grenci led the Saints (5-10, 1-3 MAAC) with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kate Zarotney came off the bench to tie a career-high with 14 points on perfect 7-for-7 shooting.

Sophomore guard Ida Krogh served as the catalyst for Siena’s offense, dishing out a career-high 10 assists. It marked the first double-digit assist performance by a Siena player in six years, since Liga Alpe-Luka’s 10-assist game on Nov. 10, 2007, against Boston University.

Siena led throughout and raced out to a 21-7 lead midway through the first half. The Saints would ultimately take a nine-point lead, 30-21, into intermission.

The Saints came out firing to start the second half, opening the half on a 10-2 run to open up a 17-point cushion at 40-23 with 16:31 remaining.

The game appeared to be well in control after Grenci stole the ball and took it all the way for the layup to put the Saints up by 20, 59-39, with 4:49 to go. But it would be Siena’s final field goal of the game.

Manhattan (4-11, 1-3) made things interesting, countering with a fur-ious rally, reeling off a 16-1 run over the next four minutes.
