A New Jersey man and a Vermont woman face grand larceny charges in separate incidents, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office.
John Cantone Jr., 53, of Jersey City, N.J., was charged with third-degree grand larceny in connection with the alleged theft of $9,200 in eyeglass frames from the Lens Crafters store in Wilton Mall in July.
Cantone, who was being housed in the Saratoga County Jail on another charge, was arraigned in Stillwater Town Court, where he was remanded back to the jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. He will appear in Wilton Town Court at a later date.
Tammy Persaud, 46, of Bennington, Vt., was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny for allegedly using a fraudulent check to open a checking account at the 1st National Bank of Scotia on Route 50 in Wilton.
Police say that within days of opening the account in October, she withdrew $1,400 from the account and then failed to repay the money from the unfunded account. Bank officials contacted the sheriff's office. Persaud will answer charges in Wilton Town Court at a later date.
