Common ground with other party, and an open door for constituents

Common ground with other party, and an open door for constituents

As the newly elected representative for New York’s 21st Congressional District, including all of Essex, Fulton, Warren and Washington counties, and parts of Herkimer and Saratoga counties, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

I came to upstate New York over 30 years ago with the Air Force, and stayed to raise a family and run a business. Now, it is my honor to represent you in Congress.

In Washington, we face many challenges in the months ahead. It’s time to get to work cutting spending, crafting a responsible farm bill and helping to create jobs in the community.

To do this, leaders in Washington will have to set aside partisanship. This is no small task, but I am committed to a process based upon the facts, not ideology, and I am eager to work across the aisle to move America forward.

As part of this effort, I joined a “bipartisan working group” last year comprising over a dozen Democrats and Republicans in search of common ground. I hope to help double our membership so we can see real, bipartisan progress on issues that matter to New York.

To succeed, however, I need to hear from you. I encourage constituents to stay in touch and give me their thoughts on these and other important issues, whether it’s through a letter, by email, on our website (owens.house.gov) or on Facebook.

In addition, I will soon open the office in Glens Falls that my predecessor, Rep. Chris Gibson, occupied throughout his service. I stand ready to help with everything from Social Security claims to veterans benefits to addressing regulations that affect local businesses.

If I can ever be of service, my door is always open. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead.

Rep. Bill Owens

Washington D.C.
