Fort Plain businessman accused of transporting drug suspect

A Fort Plain businessman already facing a felony sex charge was arrested Thursday, accused of trying

A Fort Plain businessman already facing a felony sex charge was arrested Thursday, accused of trying to smuggle a man wanted on a warrant out of the village.

Police said Dennis J. Todd, of 24 Willett St., was charged with misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration. He is accused of attempting to transport Michael Keith, 25, also of 24 Willett St., to Gloversville.

Keith was wanted on a warrant in connection to a mid-December drug sweep that netted nine suspects. Police said Keith was wanted for his alleged sale of drugs in September. He reportedly fled the village during the December operation.

According to police, Todd was driving Thursday night when he was stopped by authorities on River Street. A search of the vehicle turned up Keith hiding under a blanket on the floor in the back seat.

Todd was arrested in August on charges of first-degree criminal sex act and assault, accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy and hitting one of the boy’s adult family members in the head with a blunt object.

A month later, while retrieving confiscated belongings from the police station, he allegedly chased after a WNYT film crew, yelling and lobbing a brick. He was charged with felony reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree harassment.

He was charged in December with driving while ability impaired by drugs, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to keep right.

Todd is the chief executive officer of Old Fort Plaza and owner of Dennis’ Daylight Donuts, according to state Department of State records.
